Databases

The Databases group of the account panel: MySQL / MariaDB databases, the users sites log in to them with, access from other computers, and phpMyAdmin.

A site like WordPress keeps its posts and settings in a database: create one with a user, and give both to the site. All names start with your account's prefix, such as bob_. The side of the page, Connect from your site, shows the host and port to put in the site's configuration (WordPress: wp-config.php).

Databases

  • Create a database (letters, digits and _). Choose its user: a new user (same name unless you change it, and a strong password made for you if you leave it empty, shown once: keep it somewhere safe), one I have, or none for now.
  • The list shows each database's size and which users may use it. Assign user gives another of your users access; Open in phpMyAdmin opens just that database.
  • Delete: if a WordPress site of yours uses the database, the panel names the site and asks you to type the database's name first, because deleting it breaks the site.

Your package may limit how many databases you can have.

Database users

A user may use a database with all privileges (reading and changing data, and making and changing tables) or not at all: tick the databases it may use. Change a user's password here, then put the new one in the configuration of every site that uses this user, or they cannot reach the database.

Remote access

Normally only the sites on this server reach your databases. To let a user connect from another computer or server, add its IP address (a single IPv4 or IPv6 address) to that user and database. It logs in with the same password and can use only the database chosen. You can add up to 20 addresses. Taking a database away from a user also ends its remote access to it.

phpMyAdmin

Open phpMyAdmin opens it in a new tab, already signed in to all your databases, to browse tables, run queries, import and export. It needs no password: it uses a login of its own that can use only your databases and ends when you sign out of the panel.
